Under Dark Skies is the debut of bulgarian, self-taught musician, Velislav Ivanov. Velislav was brave enough to begin with a concept album ala Misplaced Childhood by Marillion, in the composition and mood aspects, though getting rid of the pop aspects of it.
Definitely a emotional Neo-Prog album in which Velislav was able to create in his free time. Being 80% of the album truly calm and beautiful, all lead by gentle and well performed keyboards or piano, with the mighty mellotron giving the beautiful, as well as dark, feel to the majority of the songs.
The album also brings a semi-complex feel, having songs in odd time signatures with very enjoyable piano, which reminds me to Supertramp, in which while not having 5 stars musicianship, the compositions are so well done that you careless if the musicianship is not virtuosic or whatever.
While not being the album that really clicked me to Velislav’s music, it’s a indeed enjoyable debut with a good bunch of the main characteristics from Neo-Prog, which I have to repeat, they’re very well performed and are clear to listen for the Neo-Prog fan.
3.5 stars, rounded to 3, because the next one truly deserves the 4 stars, and I don’t think it’s fair this one to be at par with the following.
Neo-Prog fans check Velislav Ivanov out, you won’t regret it!

Tried it, and it was nice.Maybe that's not the best stuff in the world, but there is a lot of MUCH MUCH WORSE stuff in the world, and this little isle of indieness amongst imperial star destroyers of big badass musical business is what made me happy for one given winter night.
I think that is good.
